On the first day of Winter, I was reminded of my many Winter Wanderings throughout this wonderful Christmas season. Foremost in my wanderings is my book, Wild Winter: Christmas, Clues, and Crooks. The characters wander from one exciting adventure to another during the month of December 1955. What better way is there to represent a retro winter than with my old snowman art. I just wish I’d put the date on my drawing!
I loved this really cute Christmas booth while wandering through the Charleston Antique Mall in Las Vegas, Nevada. This was just one remarkable booth out of many that I wandered through looking for cool Christmas ornaments, books, and stuff.
A really BIG Merry Christmas to all in this great space I wandered into while on a trip to Arkansas. Daisies and Olives in Prairie Grove, Arkansas, is absolutely full of beautiful things for sale in special spaces. Please wander in if you’re ever in the area.
These cute canisters caught my eye as I wandered through Remember When Antique Mall in Fort Smith, Arkansas, on a recent trip to visit a friend who lives near there. Because I love to bake, and I especially love to bake and decorate Christmas cookies, these canisters made me smile and took me on a blast to the past. Many 1950s households proudly displayed these four canisters on kitchen counters. Filled with flour, sugar, coffee, and tea, they waited to be used by the woman of the household.
My final Wandering brought me to a sweet booth in the Tontitown Flea Market and Antique Mall in Tontitown, Arkansas. This precious manger scene surrounded by lots of plastic, retro, light-up characters reminded me of the reason for the season. “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given . . .” Isaiah 9:6. No matter where you may wander this winter, may your wanderings bring you back to the manger and baby Jesus . . . Immanuel, God with us!
